ST is single-chip top box chip STI5197L allows equipment manufacturers to improve product performance and realize value-added functions without requiring a very low cost. STI5197L is a new single-chip set-top box chip released by STMicroelectronics for the entry-level cable set-top box market. It is specially designed for cable set-top boxes, which helps basic set-top box manufacturers to improve development efficiency and shorten the time to market.

ST‘s single-chip top box chip STI5197L integrates a QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) wired demodulator, which is compatible with ST‘s popular STi5197 chip software, and shares the same architecture with STi5197. Same-series product compatibility enables CE OEMs to leverage the development resources invested in the STi5197, significantly reducing development time for new set-top box products.

The STi5197L supports the DVB-C broadcast standard, including the A/B/C annex to the ITU-T J83 standard. The chip also supports all smart card-based security systems and has a built-in smart card interface to help expand the market for pay-TV services. In addition, the chip‘s USB interface is suitable for general device interconnection applications, and the integrated Ethernet interface allows set-top box manufacturers to develop dual-mode set-top boxes. The chip‘s integrated audio subsystem provides digital and analog outputs, and supports MP3 and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding.
