There are about 60 electronic control units in today‘s cars that communicate with each other via a controller area network. As the number of in-vehicle networking devices grows and more comfort and automation devices are installed in the vehicle, the need for in-vehicle communication continues to grow. The new protocol variant CAN FD (CAN Variable Data Rate) supports higher data bandwidth and transfer rates, saving programming, testing, diagnostics and over-the-air software upgrades.
Infineon‘s TLE925xCAN FD transceiver chips increase the speed of in-vehicle data communication by a factor of 30, up to 5 Mbit/s. CAN FD transceiver chips like the TLE925x can transmit up to 64 bytes of data per message, compared to classic CAN transceivers that can support up to 8-byte messages. This enables the consistency of the transmitted data to be checked in the transmission control unit and supports 21-bit check codes (now 17). Longer check codes can ensure reliable communication between control units, which can better ensure the safe transmission of in-vehicle data without increasing the software complexity of the electronic control unit.
Transceivers are an important component for in-vehicle data communication, and the TLE925x CAN FD transceivers can be used in body control modules and gateways, power steering/engine/transmission control units, as well as radar and camera-based driver assistance systems. On average, today each vehicle is equipped with 17 CAN transceivers; in the next 5 years, this number will increase to more than 20.
The TLE925x CAN FD transceivers support signal interface voltages of 3.3V and 5V, ensuring optimal signal symmetry, the more symmetrical the signal, the better the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Compared to the previous generation of CAN transceiver products, Infineon has enhanced the electromagnetic interference (EMI) capability of the CAN FD transceiver chips in the standard frequency range of 1MHz to 1 GHz.
The TLE925x frequency intervention 150 kHz to 1 GHz Electromagnetic Emissions (EME) is lower than any other existing CAN transceiver, in addition, this CAN FD transceiver also passes IEC61000-4-2 Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) of at least ±8 kV )test.
Infineon offers a broad portfolio of bus protocols including CAN FD, CAN with local networking, high-speed CAN, LIN and FlexRay, among others. For the protocol variant CAN FD with a data transfer rate of 5Mbit/s, in addition to the ISO11898-2:2016-compliant TLE925x transceivers, Infineon also provides a supporting system-on-chip, the TLE9278 Multi-CAN Power-SBC product family. Infineon‘s CAN FD portfolio also includes the ISO11898-1:2015 compliant AURIX series TC3xx multi-core microcontrollers offering up to 12 CAN FD channels.
CAN FD transceivers increase the speed of in-vehicle communication, they are packaged in TSON-8 and measure only 3mm x 3mm.
The above is the analysis of the function of Infineon CAN FD transceiver chip, I hope it can be used for your reference.
