By unlocking the enormous potential of Infineon‘s leading power MOSFET technology, Infineon Technologies AG has launched the MERUS dual-channel, analog-input Class-D audio amplifier multi-chip module (MCM) MA5332MS. The MA5332MS has been fully upgraded on the basis of the previous generation, and can provide the same or even higher output power as a single-chip audio amplifier, without the need for a heat sink, and the board area is reduced by 50%. In the power range of 100W-400W per channel, the MA5332MS is ideal for consumer electronics such as home theater systems, sound bars, subwoofers and mini audio systems. It is also suitable for professional applications such as active speakers, active studio monitor controllers, guitar speakers, car audio retrofits, and marine audio amplifiers.
Housed in a 42-pin QFN package measuring 7mm x 7mm, the MA5332MS integrates a dual-channel PWM controller, high-voltage gate driver, and four low on-resistance (RDS(ON)) MOSFETs in a small package. Due to the extremely low on-resistance of the output stage of the Class D audio amplifier (typ: 24.4 mΩ), the MA5332MS can provide 2 x 100 W of constant power to a load of 4Ω without a heat sink; With a small 8°C/W heatsink, 2 x 200 W of constant power can be delivered to a 4Ω load. Significantly reduced size compared to other single-chip solutions. The MA5332MS is available with differential or single-ended input and multiple output configuration options - single-ended (2x SE), bridge-tied load (BTL) and parallel single-ended (PSE), and supports dual or single supply. Replacing the BTL structure with the SE structure can reduce the bus capacitor and output a low-pass filter.
As a highly integrated multi-chip module, MA5332MS also provides over-current, over-temperature and under-voltage protection circuits with self-reset function. This system-on-chip-based protection circuit saves time by eliminating the need for external components to design the protection circuit. In addition, a new internal logic control method for controlling soft-start operation further reduces click noise. Thanks to functional improvements, the MA5332MS reduces BOM (Bill of Materials) costs and cooling requirements, bringing more space to industrial designs, while achieving excellent efficiency and low output distortion.
