TI‘s TPS40200 asynchronous PWM step-down controller has an extremely wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 52 V, while the output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.7 V. The TPS40200 employs voltage-mode control with voltage feed-forward, which simplifies the design of compensation, which is required when the input voltage varies over the entire input range. Housed in a low-pin 8L SOIC package, the device supports control and protection features such as undervoltage lockout, programmable closed-loop soft-start, and short-circuit protection required by today‘s power supplies.
Power system designers can optimize the efficiency and solution size of the TPS40200 by programming switching frequencies from 35 kHz to 500 kHz, or by synchronizing the controller with an external clock. The integrated 200mA FET driver can directly drive small to medium size power FETs.
The TPS40041 synchronous, voltage-mode PWM controller operates from an input supply voltage of 2.25 V to 5.5 V and generates a 0.59 V output at a fixed frequency of 600 kHz. The pin count of the buck controller is further reduced, and features such as soft-start and short-circuit protection are integrated. Since the PS40041 is packaged in a 3 x 3 mm 8L ​​SON package, designers can implement a small point-of-load power supply without compromising performance.
The TI TPS40222 is a 1.25 MHz asynchronous device with integrated high-side FET in a 3 x 3 mm 6-pin SON package that operates from an input supply voltage of 4.5 V to 8 V. Additionally, the controller‘s output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.8 V. Operating at high frequencies minimizes the power supply footprint. In the event of a fault, the TPS40222 implements current-mode control and pulse-by-pulse current limiting with frequency foldback to protect the output.
Its new TI TPS40190 low-cost synchronous buck controller with voltage-mode control and adaptive gate drive can operate from 4.5 V to 15 V at a fixed switching frequency of 300 kHz. The product is easy to design, and its integrated linear regulator converts the input voltage to a 5 V on-chip supply voltage for powering the controller and driver. In addition, because the TPS40190 can generate an adjustable output voltage as low as 0.6 V, it is ideal for low-cost applications that require voltage translation from 5 V bus, Intermediate Bus, or 12 V bus standards. The controller also features three levels of on-chip overcurrent protection, an internal soft-start ramp, and a dedicated start-up pin.
