Today, the editor of Hao Qi Core Technology, I will introduce you to the eight major MCU manufacturers. Respectively:
1. NXP
The traditional MCU of NXP (NXP) is the MCU based on the 80C51 core, which embeds functions such as power-down detection, simulation and on-chip RC oscillator, which makes the 51LPC in the application design of high integration, low cost and low power consumption. It can meet various performance requirements. In 2015, 75% of NXP‘s MCU revenue came from 8-bit and 16-bit MCUs used in smart cards.
After the acquisition of Freescale, NXP moved from the world‘s sixth largest MCU supplier to the top position in 2015, with a market share of 19% and revenue of $2.9 billion. After the acquisition of Freescale, NXP‘s MCU turned to 32-bit MCU‘s embedded control applications, and the automotive electronics field is its focus area. Both NXP and Freescale have developed a large number of 32-bit ARMCortex-M MCUs.
2. Renesas
The world‘s premier MCU supplier, the veritable king of MCU.
On April 1, 2003, the business reorganization between Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric led to the establishment of Renesas Technology. In 2010, Renesas Technology merged with NEC to form the new Renesas Electronics Corporation.
The new Renesas Electronics, based on its strong R&D strength, design and development platform, and various manufacturing technologies, actively promotes and strengthens the development of three major product areas: MCU, system LSI, analog and power semiconductor devices.
3. Microchip (acquired Atmel)
The world‘s leading supplier of microcontrollers and analog semiconductors. 1st place from 2006 to 2009. On January 19, 2016, Microchip successfully grabbed the marriage from Dialog and announced the successful acquisition of Atmel, with a total value of 3.56 billion US dollars.
Microchip, which successfully acquired Atmel, has climbed to the third position in the MCU market in less than two months.
4. Samsung
Samsung‘s MCU market share in 2016 was 12%, ranking fourth. Samsung has KS51 and KS57 series 4-bit MCU, KS86 and KS88 series 8-bit MCU, KS17 series 16-bit MCU and KS32 series 32-bit MCU. Samsung MCU is OTP type ISP on-chip programming function. The technology of NEC is adopted on the 4-bit computer, the Z8 technology of Zilog Company is introduced on the 8-bit computer, and the ARM7 core is purchased on the 32-bit computer, as well as the technology of DEC and the technology of Toshiba. The price of its MCU die is quite competitive.
5. ST
Founded in June 1988, it was formed by the merger of Italy‘s SGS Microelectronics and France‘s Thomson Semiconductor. In May 1998, SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics changed the company name to STMicroelectronics Limited. STMicroelectronics is a global leader in the development and provision of semiconductor solutions in the field of microelectronics applications. The STM32 series of ARM Cortex-M* microcontrollers occupy half of the industry.
6. Infineon
One of the few automotive semiconductor manufacturers that comprehensively covers the most important applications in the automotive field.
Founded in Munich, Germany in April 1999, it was formerly the semiconductor division of Siemens Group. It became independent in 1999 and went public in 2000. Has a broad product portfolio including microcontrollers, smart sensors, RF transceiver ICs, radar, and discrete and integrated power semiconductors. MCU is very well-known in automotive electronics, industrial control, and medical fields.
7. TI
A global semiconductor design and manufacturing company with business coverage in more than 35 countries, serving more than 100,000 customers around the world, with an 85-year history of innovation, more than 100,000 analog integrated circuits, embedded processors and software and tools, industry Largest sales and support team.
TI‘s MSP320 used to be a digital integrated circuit that was all the rage. Later, with the company‘s transformation, MCU began to decline. Today, with the introduction of new products, TI‘s MCUs are making a comeback.
8. Cypress+Spansion
Founded in 1982, Cypress produces high-performance IC products for data transmission, telecommunication, PC and military systems, and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. On March 12, 2015, Cypress Semiconductor Corporation and Spansion Corporation announced the completion of a $5 billion, all-stock, tax-free merger of the two companies. The merger created a global market leader in MCUs and memory for embedded systems with a turnover of $2 billion, and No. 3 in automotive MCUs and memories.
The above is the introduction of the eight major MCU manufacturers, hoping to help everyone.
