The device is feature-rich and can be programmed through a standard 3-wire serial interface with 16 operating and adjustment modes, including scratch pad programming, memory store and restore, increment/decrement, ±6 dB/step logarithmic ladder adjustment, The cursor settings are read back, and EEMEM is additionally provided to store user-defined information, such as memory data of other devices, look-up tables, or system identification information.

EEMEM content can be restored dynamically or by external PR strobe; WP function protects EEMEM content. To simplify programming, linear step increment or decrement commands can be used to move the RDAC cursor up and down, one step at a time. The RDAC wiper setting can be doubled or halved using ±6 dB step commands.

The AD5231 is available in a 16-lead TSSOP package and is guaranteed to operate over the industrial temperature range of −40°C to +85°C.
