Based on a 40nm manufacturing process using the third-generation Xilinx ASMBL™ architecture, the Virtex-6 FPGA family is also supported by next-generation development tools and an extensive IP library already developed for Virtex-5 FPGAs. These provide powerful support for prolific development and design porting. Compared with 40nm FPGA products offered by competitors, the new Virtex-6 FPGA family of devices has 15% higher performance and 15% lower power consumption. The new devices operate on a 1.0v core voltage, with an optional 0.9v low-power version available. These allow system designers to incorporate Virtex-6 FPGAs in their designs, thereby supporting the construction of "green" central offices and data centers.
