Renesas has introduced two system-in-package (SiP) products, the RAJ306001 and RAJ306010 motor driver ICs, that simplify the design of brushless DC (BLDC) motor control systems in battery-powered and other application scenarios.

The RAJ306001 and RAJ306010 motor driver ICs integrate multiple functions into a single IC to provide excellent dynamic performance and high torque at low and high speeds while minimizing board space and system cost. By integrating multiple functions into a single IC, efficient and safe BLDC motor control designs can be implemented more easily.

The RAJ306001 and RAJ306010 integrate an RL78/G1F microcontroller and pre-driver into an 8mm x 8mm QFN package to control a battery-powered three-phase BLDC motor.

Its pre-drivers include charge pumps, linear regulators, current sensing, programmable slew rate control, and back-EMF detection circuitry for sensorless operation. The highly integrated SiP package enables customers to eliminate up to 30 external components, reduce board footprint by up to 50%, and reduce material and assembly costs.

The new IC design takes thermal management into consideration, with self-aligned dead time to prevent shoot-through. These products also provide adjustable pre-driver output current capability up to 500mA to drive power MOSFETs. This makes its thermal design simpler because the IC can drive the MOSFET at the optimum time, reducing MOSFET switching margin by 90% compared to conventional systems, and enabling efficient motor drive control with reduced heat generation.

We also offer a new Renesas Solution Starter Kit (RSSK) for developers developing motor control solutions using the RAJ3060xx ICs. RSSK has a complete evaluation environment including development boards, motors and reference firmware. It supports simple debugging, enabling customers to immediately begin evaluating their motor control designs, performing real-time analysis and tuning to accelerate development.
