Xilinx: The world is leading FPGA chip manufacturer, officially acquired by AMD in 2022
Publish:IC chip, PCB, PCBA, integrated circuit and other electronic components-Shenzhen Hao Qi Core Technology Co., Ltd  Time:2022-06-25  Views:430
Xilinx is the world‘s leading FPGA chip manufacturer. Founded in 1984, Xilinx pioneered Field Programmable Logic Arrays (FPGAs) and spawned a new industry, with the first commercial products in 1985. In 1994, Xilinx released the Virtex® FPGA, a breakthrough in architecture and performance from its original FPGA. In 2012, Xilinx introduced the first 28nm Zynq® device, a complete SoC system supporting an application processor and including cache, memory controller, peripherals, FPGA logic, DSP blocks and SerDes blocks. Xilinx‘s second-generation ZynqSoC (heterogeneous MPSoC) came out in 2017 and added a new processing engine with the goal of enabling the right hardware engine for the right task, optimizing the processing requirements of complex systems. In 2018, Xilinx released the Alveo™ data center accelerator card, which simplifies the development and deployment of high-performance, adaptable FPGA acceleration in the data center. In 2019, Xilinx released Versal, the first Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP). Versal® ACAP supports a variety of Domain-Specific Architectures (DSAs) and compute fabrics, and its core strength lies in its ability to function as a multi-core general-purpose SoC, including additional hardware and software programmable engines for optimal power and performance trade-offs.
Xilinx provides multiple solutions for adaptive computing, AI inference acceleration, AI analysis, and video transcoding for fields including data centers, automobiles, consumer electronics, industry, and communications. Compatible with computing acceleration platforms), FPGA, 3DIC, SoC, MPSoc and RFSoC and other product families; in addition, it also includes computing and communication accelerators, System-on-Modules (SOMs), Ethernet adapters and software and hardware development support.
Among them, in terms of FPGA devices, Xilinx provides a comprehensive and comprehensive multi-node product series. The product process covers the 45nm-16nm node, whether it is an advanced process product with extreme performance, or a comprehensive and most balanced mid-range product, or a low-cost and stable product. The low-end products can be found in different product lines.
In fiscal year 2021, Xilinx‘s revenue reached US$3.15 billion, which was basically the same year-on-year; in Q2 of fiscal year 2022, Xilinx achieved revenue of US$940 million, a year-on-year increase of 22%, of which the automotive and communications businesses were the two fastest growing areas. , reaching 70% and 42%, respectively. In terms of profit margin level, Xilinx‘s gross profit margin has been basically stable between 65%-70% in the past 10 years, and Xilinx‘s gross profit margin in fiscal year 2021 is 68.4%; The net profit margin was 23.15%.
In terms of downstream applications, in Xilinx‘s fiscal year 2021 revenue, AIT business (aerospace defense + industrial + test and measurement simulation) accounted for 44%; ABC business (automotive, radio and television and consumer electronics) accounted for 16%; WWG business ( Communication business) accounted for 30% of revenue; DCG business (data center) accounted for 10%. From a regional perspective, in Xilinx‘s fiscal year 2021 revenue, the revenue in North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Japan accounted for 28%, 49%, 16%, and 7%, respectively; of which China‘s revenue was about 1 billion US dollars, roughly accounted for 30%.
In February 2022, AMD officially completed the acquisition of Xilinx in a $35 billion all-stock transaction. Upon completion of the acquisition, Xilinx‘s leading FPGA, adaptive SoC, AI engine and software expertise will empower AMD, bring AMD‘s unparalleled portfolio of high-performance and adaptive computing solutions, and help AMD in the foreseeable A larger share of the $135 billion cloud computing, edge computing and smart device market.
